Abstract (English).
Core problem and relevance: the green island on the Yesil River in the center of Astana remains one of the undeveloped urban sites, despite its unique landscape location. The lack of significant infrastructure breaks the connection between the historical past of this territory (nomadic routes, first settlements) and the dynamic development of Kazakhstan’s capital. The island’s potential as a cultural, historical and recreational center remains unrealized.
Methods: a mythological approach is applied – the interpretation of the dragon Aidahar image (Turkic water guardian) for the shaping of the museum complex. Methods of architectural analysis, landscape design and functional zoning are used (1).
Key hypotheses and conclusions: the introduction of the archetypal dragon image makes it possible to create a plastic “body” of the building that meanders, partially sinks into the terrain and reaches the water, uniting the underground, surface and aquatic worlds. This solution forms the uniqueness of the place, turns the island into a “mythological hero”, preserves the historical memory of the people and integrates modern infrastructure into the historical and cultural landscape.
Practical application: the concept is intended for the design of museum complexes in natural areas. The results can be used by architects, urban planners and regional authorities in the development of urban areas (not only vacant, but also historically established ones requiring renovation). The methodology ensures the preservation of heritage through its integration into modern architecture and public spaces.
Expected effect: the concept provides a basis for scaling such complexes in any territories, increases the tourist attractiveness of the city and creates an intergenerational public space.
